The following comments are intended as a guide only. This is a showing class with jumps and is judged in two parts. The rider needs to be dressed in a hacking jacket or show jacket, light coloured jodhpurs, shirt and tie (or stock in horse class), jodhpur boots or long boots if over 16yrs, gloves and of course a hat. Hair in a net or plaited, everything should look neat and tidy. The Horse/pony should have plain clean tack, a dark coloured numnah if needed ,not a saddle cloth. It should be well groomed and plaited, except in a native class. Boots may be worn for the jumping stage but should be removed for the showing. THE JUMPINGWalk or at least be sure you know the course. Enter at an active walk or trot (this gives a much better impression ) and report to the judge . At his or her instruction start your round, this should be at a smooth and continuous pace from which the horse/pony can jump without rushing the fences. Return to the judge before leaving the ring. THE SHOWINGIf you had a clear round in the jumping you will be called back to be judged on conformation and presentation. A horse/pony with minimum faults in the jumping round may be re-called, if in the judges opinion it is of such good conformation it could make up the points lost in jumping and be placed. Some judges will give instructions on what they wish to be done in the show, if not a simple figure of eight on both reins in trot, canter and a gallop to finish, keep it short and remember to do it where the judge can see you.
